Client stories

Our clients' experiences showcase how The Climate Network drives meaningful connections, delivers valuable insights, and enables and engagement and collaboration across the broader climate ecosystem.

Cynara Vetch – Constructive Institute

Cynara Vetch first learned about NCN through a colleague’s recommendation and was drawn to the opportunity to explore the dynamic climate ecosystem in Kenya. For someone working in journalism, NCN offers an invaluable window into the nuanced work happening across the climate sector.

NCN designed and led a climate ecosystem tour for the Constructive Institute, bringing 25+ international journalists to KenyaThis immersive experience allowed the group to delve into Africa’s critical role in the global climate transition. By visiting NCN members like Octavia Carbon and clean cookstove innovators, the fellows gained firsthand insights into innovative solutions addressing the climate crisis. The experience was far richer than any traditional presentation, providing a powerful narrative for better media coverage of climate issues on the African continent.

For Cynara, NCN’s greatest strength lies in convening diverse professionals with deep expertise across fields. By breaking silos and fostering collaboration, the network strengthens individual and collective impact, driving forward Kenya’s green growth agenda.

NCN brings together a diverse range of skilled professionals working deeply in their fields. Without the network, these experts might never learn of complementary work that can strengthen their impact and help the shared goal of green growth.

Vincent Mainga – Trees for the Future

Vincent Mainga and Trees for the Future first encountered NCN through a presentation at a meeting organised by Bowmans Legal Firm. The presentation highlighted NCN’s work, including its role as the voice of the industry around the Climate Change (Carbon Markets) Regulations 2024. Inspired by the network’s efforts, Trees for the Future became a member, eager to contribute to and benefit from its collaborative initiatives.

For Trees for the Future, NCN has been instrumental in supporting Kenya’s legislative process for carbon markets. The network has led efforts to educate members on the provisions of the regulations, coordinate reviews of draft policies, and ensure the final regulations address the needs of stakeholders. NCN’s role as a convener has also been critical, from hosting workshops and sensitization events to organising networking opportunities like the recent breakfast meeting with CATONA, where key players discussed Kenya’s carbon market landscape.

NCN’s impact extends far beyond policy. It has unified the voices of carbon market stakeholders, ensuring the government recognizes them as key partners in legislative processes. By creating forums to address emerging issues, educating members, and acting as watchdogs, NCN has fostered rapid growth in Kenya’s carbon market space.

One of NCN’s most outstanding impacts is coordinating the network to speak with one voice and ensuring the government recognizes players in the carbon markets as key stakeholders. Their efforts have not only expanded the carbon market space but also empowered members to be proactive advocates for responsive and effective climate policies.

Lilian Kagume – Climate Impact Partners

Since its inception, Climate Impact Partners has been deeply engaged with NCN as one of its founding sponsors. From the first informal meeting of just ten participants to the thriving network it is today, Lilian and her team have witnessed NCN’s growth and evolving role in Kenya’s climate ecosystem.

One of the most significant outcomes of this partnership has been the launch of the Carbon Markets Association of Kenya (CAMAK). Recognizing the need for a unified voice in the carbon market space, CAMAK was established to bring together practitioners and stakeholders, advocate for continuous improvements in Kenya’s legal frameworks, and promote the exchange of best practices among developers. This initiative aims to strengthen Kenya’s position as a leader in carbon markets and ensure long-term sustainability.

The launch of CAMAK at the Kenya Carbon Markets Conference, co-hosted with NCN, marked a pivotal moment for the sector. The event drew key stakeholders, government representatives, and industry leaders, creating a platform for collaboration and momentum. Through this work, NCN has played a critical role in shaping policies and advancing Kenya’s carbon market ecosystem, making it a hub for innovation and growth.

Kenya is an engine of green growth, and NCN is fueling the engine. It has connected us with incredible initiatives, introduced fresh perspectives, and created opportunities to collaborate. This partnership has been essential in driving climate action and amplifying the impact of our work in the region.
